Curry Burns Schools Still
Possible Jail Time Hasn't Slowed Ric Curry Burns

January 29, 2005

promotion So what does a man do when he might be going to jail in 72 hours? 5thEstate.com gives our readers an exclusive view of former Lancaster Superintendent of Schools, Ric Curry Burns' current activities. Ric (he is known as both Curry and Burns) was both showing off his new title and position as Chief Operating Officer for Alternatives Unlimited and getting on his lawyer's case for the unfavorable report that the US Attorney General gave to Lancaster Countian, Federal Judge Larry Stengel for his sentencing on Monday morning (not Tuesday as erroneously reported by Friday's Intell).

"Dr." Burns (with just a bachelor's degree!) has been representing Alternatives Unlimited (AU) since July 2004 as AU's area representative, promoting their "…central mission of Alternatives Unlimited is to motivate and instruct 'at-risk' students, including those identified as emotionally disturbed or behavior disordered, in a safe and orderly, academically challenging environment."

And who better than Ricardo Curry Burns, who pled guilty to felony charges in September, to help troubled teens get educated?! These past months, "Dr." Burns has been visiting the AU schools in the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) as well as schools in Delware county, Pennsylvania, which is pretty amazing for a felon awaiting sentencing! These public school districts pay $8,000 or more for every student that attends AU "private" schools and Ric was making sure they were happy.

But this week, Ric was being introduced to AU employees as the NEW Chief Operating Officer in charge of education. In fact, the company's newsletter called "ROOTS" and dated January 2005, has Ric's promotion prominently featured. At the same time, Stuart Berger, the President of AU, was preparing to speak at Ric's sentencing this coming Monday!

Ric's upcoming sentencing did not prevent him from excitedly telling prospective AU clients Friday that they should send correspondence to him at:

letter to lawyer cburns@alternativesunlimited.com
Mr. Ricardo Burns
Chief Operating Officer
Alternatives Unlimited
8508 Loch Raven Blvd.
Towson, MD 21286

Will they forward Ric's mail to jail? Or are Stuart Berger and Ric counting on the judge to give no jail time so that Ric can continue overseeing AU's schools? Or are Stuart Berger and Ric planning to run the company's education program out of a federal jail?

5thEstate.com has an EXCLUSIVE letter written from Ric to his attorney which describes Ric's displeasure with the report written to the judge. In part, it reads:

"I am still quite upset that so much misinformation was allowed into this report. Editor's note: This refers to the report given by the US Attorney General's office to the judge) If the judge is going to make his decision based on this report I want him to have the truth. Statements such as, 'Mr. Curry did not disclose', suggest that I am trying to hide something. I have not hid anything or any information. I ask that you work hard to assure that the judge gets the truth."

So does the judge know the TRUTH of Ric working with kids? Do these public schools know the TRUTH that a convicted felon is helping the education program for troubled teens? Only if they read 5thEstate.com!
