So why is Pete Shaub not voting to remove the county bound-backing deal along with fellow commissioners Shellenberger and Henderson? After all, when Commissioners Thibault and Ford voted in October of 2003, Shaub agreed with commissioner candidates Jim Clymer, Molly Henderson and Dick Shellenberger that the convention center project was promised to have ZERO risk for the county. But then Shaub was running for office - does he remember the promises and reasons he made as a candidate?

June 6, 2006 So why is Pete Shaub not voting to remove the county bound-backing deal along with fellow commissioners Shellenberger and Henderson? After all, when Commissioners Thibault and Ford voted in October of 2003, Shaub agreed with commissioner candidates Jim Clymer, Molly Henderson and Dick Shellenberger that the convention center project was promised to have ZERO risk for the county. But then Shaub was running for office - does he remember the promises and reasons he made as a candidate? Before listening to what the two-faced Shaub said in 2003, you really have to view what Shaub says about trusting him. That's right - you can count on Shaub! "And you also have to have someone you can trust. And people have always trusted me to do the right thing. Even when it means that I have to speak up when I think that something is wrong."
Transcript of Pete Shaub's October 2003 comments before voting no on county bond backing First of all, I want to tell you that I appreciate everybody's time and effort to be here to have these discussions. That's what this is all about to have open debate and open discussion about the facts. I particularly want to thank the convention center authority. I know how much time and effort you have put into this - all your members give voluntarily of it. But I do appreciate the passion that is here. But it is a very difficult decision for us to make, some people think it's easy, some people don't. But there is an awful lot of people in this county that are not here in this room. Who have called, who talked to us at the diner having talked when we are out and about in the community. And there is differences of opinion about what the role of county government is suppose to be. So as we make our decision - this is not a decision about pro-city or pro-county. I have been pro-city ever since I've been in this office and have worked tirelessly for the convention center. But I do represent the interest of the entire county and when I hear from other people about their concerns, about commitments made when this project started, when this project started their was commitments made to the public. And we as public officials owe a responsibility to represent those people - When we promise them something, we have to uphold what we promised. We have to take that into consideration as we make our votes and so forth.
So please, I appreciate your passion but also respect my feelings on the things I heard to represent all the people of Lancaster County. And this does not represent any my vote which it may be, of my commitment or passion to the city. But remember that we do represent all the people of this County and all the opinions of on how this issue is handled and the responsibility and risks that are taken.
