Taxing Performance Review? NOT!
Phil Rainey not paying attention!

August 31, 2006

He got GREAT reviews - EVERY year. He also got a raise every year. 5thEstate.com has learned that Dave Straub of the Lancaster County Tax Assessment office, not only failed to deposit nearly a million dollars in school, municipal and county tax money, but he also completed his OWN performance evaluation! That’s right, Straub completed his very own performance review complete with a non-comprehendible signature! Tax assessment head Phil Rainey claims to know NOTHING about the reviews!

As county employees try to piece together all the issues related to the Clean & Green office, more details have emerged such as the performance review. Another issue involved a well-known law firm which had a face-to-face meeting with Straub to get to the bottom of checks that were NOT deposited. Straub apologized and asked them to write out a NEW check and said that another county department was the cause of the delay! While Straub gave the old check back to them, he also never got around to depositing the NEW check either!

Reporter’s To Jail?
August 29, 2006
The AG’s office wants to peek at more of Lancaster Newspaper’s computers to see if there is incriminating evidence but you’ll NEVER guess where the computers are located! The Sports Desk! That’s right, the AG’s office is hoping to find MORE evidence that newspaper’s employee illegally accessed the county’s legal-beagle website. Apparently, Intell reporters sometimes come into the office and find the Lancaster New Era employees seated at their shared desks. Those “early bird” Intell reporters will then sit down at the Sport’s Desk area and jump on those computers – hence the need to search those computers for evidence. Anyway it goes - it doesn’t look good!

Shaub Resign?
August 29, 2006
Commissioner Pete Shaub’s term ends in January of 2008 but that’s not stopping him from looking for a new job now! According to sources, Shaub is angling for a construction management job in York County and is said to have an interview THIS WEEK! Shaub’s absence from the commissioner’s weekly meeting was conspicuous but other sources have guessed that Kinsley Construction – where’ Shaub’s daughter works – is a possible choice.

BIG BONUS!
August 29, 2006
Dick and Molly voted today to give Don Elliot – the big cheese of the county – a $12,000 bonus for taking on new dutiess!
