Ever hear of the Pulitzer Prize? The Lancaster Newspaper and their editors love to wear the mantle of press while making a point to ‘diss 5thEstate.com and other web publications as not being legitimate. But if you know anything about Joseph Pulitzer, of Pulitzer Prize fame, you know he would have look down his nose at the print-news-monopoly’s work and have elevated publications like 5thEstate.com!
One of Pulitzer’s investigative reporters was a woman who went by the name of Nellie Bly. She faked mental illness and was committed to Blackwell's Island Insane Asylum. She experienced all of the pain that others went through with the purpose of documenting the horrors! When Pulitzer’s paper got her out of the asylum, she wrote ground-breaking stories that launched an official investigation that changed the asylum. Read Wikipedia on Nellie! Please compare Pulitzer’s investigator to any reporter at Lancaster Newspapers. Who among them have the guts to put their neck out or take chances to find the truth? Sadly, if any did, they would find themselves on the unemployment line. It’s a fact that Lancaster Newspapers can and does tolerate their employees having sex on their desks but they better not write a story that rocks the convention center boat! 5thEstate.com continued our tradition of being the ONLY investigative reporting in Lancaster County. We are not content to just let people call us up, we go make the news! But as THE avant garde web journalist, we continued breaking ground on the internet. This year we began in earnest to provide more video footage of newsmakers and let YOU see them in action. We let the camera roll and let you see ALL the footage. As we are a free publication, we have utilized two free services for streaming video – YouTube.com and of course at Google.com. What about scoops? Of course 5thEstate.com continued to be a source for the 4th Estate and they continued to steal our stuff without giving us credit. WGAL was the most flagrant this year when they actually showed our website and then told the story without giving us credit! Tsk. Tsk. That story was about the million dollars of checks in the desk draw and those stories can be found here and here. Pete Shaub resigning? Please. 5thEstate.com readers were told about that on August 31, 2006 and we even have where he might be going! Click here and scroll down! Don’t you hate the way the newspaper and WGAL give us little clips? At 5thEstate.com, we provide newsmakers our website to tell their story unfiltered and unedited. Harry Eng took us up on the offer and posted his story here . And who could forget our scoops on the county coroner? This story tied the newspaper into the trouble and they can be found here. This is where 5thEstate.com shames and embarrasses the newspaper and other members of the 4th Estate These topic are so important and will effect us, our children and our grandchildren and yet they just don’t want to write about these subjects. Why don’t they write these stories?
