What about revenge? Judge Hummer wasn’t done with his ex son-in-law. In February of 2005 Hummer, along with his wife, took the father of his grandchildren to court demanding that he immediately pay almost $30,000 in interest, late fees and attorney fees.

Hummer Flips

Judge Hummer has been Lancaster County’s “family court” judge since 1980. While Judge Hummer’s conduct has horrified courtroom observers, let’s look at one of his dealings outside the courtroom that won’t exactly inspire confidence in his integrity or scruples. In our previous story, entitled, “Inside Hummer’s Head” we detailed how the judge is an actor and views the court as a stage. So what would Hummer do when he is own daughter was going through a divorce? Just how far would Judge Hummer go? This story will explore how Judge Hummer took advantage his intricate knowledge of the law and process to advise and assist his daughter on how to rip off various companies and as a bonus get revenge on her “ex” by driving him into bankruptcy!

You might remember in our other story “Inside Hummer's Head” we described how Hummer got both his daughter and his son-in-law jobs working underneath his Family Court. This conflict of interest went on for 8 years! But what would happen when their marriage began to fall apart? (We protect their privacy by not printing their names)

  • Hummer’s daughter stopped paying on the mortgage on the house in June of 2000 after her husband left. Completely. Not one cent was paid even though she was living in the house. This despite the fact that she was receiving over $1,800 a month from her soon-to-be ex-husband!
  • A year later on May 29, 2001, Hummer’s daughter filed for personal bankruptcy and discharge all her debt. This amounted to +$22,000 in unsecured debt It also included over $146,000 in mortgages. All wiped away as though it never happened!
  • In November of 2001, according to court documents, the Sheriff of Lancaster County served the “Mortgage Foreclosure Complaint” to Hummer’s daughter at his office (emphasis ours). Did Hummer’s daughter have to come to the Sheriff’s office or did Hummer’s secretary (who just happens to be the Sheriff’s wife!) pick them up for her and give them to Hummer? In any case, Hummer’s daughter continued living in the house without a care in the world. She didn’t owe anyone any money and she continued living rent-free in the house! She was able to keep her car, expensive designer clothes all free and clear. Her ex-husband? His credit goes down the tube because she didn't use the support money he was paying her and pay the mortgage!
  • But wait. What about the Sheriff sale on her house? Was Hummer’s daughter going to get kicked out of her home? Have no fear, on January 23, 2002, Judge Wayne G. Hummer bought the house at Sheriff sale! Fairbanks Capitol received $95,100 despite being owed almost $10,000 more! At the same time, Hummer also bought out a loan at almost ½ price. (he paid $10,000 for what had turned in almost $30,000 loan!)
  • Hummer evil? What about revenge? Judge Hummer wasn’t done with his ex son-in-law. In February of 2005 Hummer, along with his wife, took the father of his grandchildren to court demanding that he immediately pay almost $30,000 in interest, late fees and attorney fees. Hummer’s lawyer wrote to the son-in-law, “Your former wife was relieved from paying this loan by virtue of her receiving a Chapter 7 bankruptcy discharge. Thus, you are now solely liable for said loan and you should begin making all payments directly to the Hummers at the following address: (Lititz address deleted for privacy).” Hummer, after sucking any equity that might be in the house, demands that his ex son-in-law pay for his daughter’s discharged loan!
  • In January of 2006, Hummer’s ex son-in-law waved the white flag and filed for bankruptcy.

In 1980, Hummer described his daughters in a newspaper story when he said, “I am having trouble understanding why my children have no real ambition. They're like a lot of young people today, they say they'll wait and see. And they play their rock and roll full blast.”

If there was any doubt that Hummer strategize and came up with the above plan, just read the court documents that lay out the custody agreement between the divorcing couple. In four different places, Hummer or “grandparents” is mentioned. For instance, part 6 A says “Each year, Mother shall be entitled on the Sunday before Labor Day from 9:30 AM until 6 PM so she and the children can attend the Hummer Reunion.”!
