Smear Campaign Ratches Up a Notch

February 22, 2007

D R Horton is back in trouble again. The multi-billion-publically-traded company is currently being investigated by

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue for tax evasion (click here to read our piece which nailed them!)
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (related to Code Officials and quality of workmanship
  • The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office.

Readers might recall that in our last investigation that Horton Employee Tom Huggins called the police and falsely accused 5thEstate.com's editor Ron Harper Jr when he showed up to ask questions about the tax invading. When Huggins saw that wasn't working, he then accused Gary Stauffer of hitting him with his truck – all while the police were present!

(Editor's note: I am currently co-producing a documentary on "FALSE ACCUSERS". Please see DaddyJustice.com. False accusation seems to be the weapon of choice today. Until authorities step up to the plate and prosecute liars, there will be no end!)

The previous false accusations said the following:
"When police arrived Ron Harper, Jr telephoned one of the development's residents and source for the tax evasion information, Gary Stauffer, who arrived a minute later. While Officer C. Landis of the East Hempfield Township police acted like a complete gentleman with Ron Harper, Jr,, twenty feet away, Huggins and his cohorts created a loud disturbance proclaiming that Stauffer had hit him with his truck!

"HEY OFFICER, OFFICER right here, right now. Come here. He just hit me with his truck!"

The video shows Huggins' employees not even pausing as they walk by their screaming boss! Apparently these sauntering employees did not get clued into the act! "

Now D R Horton is using Lancaster-based Horst Property Management in their attempt to bully and intimidate those that would oppose them! Last Saturday on the Village Grande "Community Building" East Hempfield Supervisor Heidi Wheaton kicked off her campaign for Lancaster County commissioner. The three dozen or so supporters (including editor Ron Harper Jr.) drank coffee and orange juice, ate whoopie pies and cookies while listening to a 5-10 minute program.

Those that spoke included prominent businessmen Pat Stillman and Tom Shea at the quiet affair that had no loud-speaker system and lasted about an hour. The problem? Horst Property Management sent the hostess, Linda Stauffer (wife of Gary Stauffer) a letter accusing those at the rally for "significant damage to the Clubhouse dance floor."! It also includes a paragraph that threatens that "Ms Wheaton, as your guest at the Clubhouse, Ms, Wheaton may also be responsible to you and the Association for the repair costs!" (click here to read the entire letter

While the list of potential witnesses in the threatened legal action includes many upstanding citizens, it also included Lancaster Sunday News reporter Helen Adams! The rather benign invent included no dancing and no activity other than talking and eating a few snacks making the baseless allegations even more ridiculous. Sharon Hubbard, a resident and a board of trustee director for the association left the building in a huff on Saturday after taking pictures of the event. Her husband accompanied her and partook of the munchies (we were not able to find out if Mr. Hubbard will be also responsible the supposed "significant damage"since he was also there but we suspect not!). The newly opened building was left the way it was found including the several long cracks on the ceiling/wall near the entrance.

The "community building" is owned DR Horton while Horst Property Management has a contract to maintain the outside of the development including grass cutting and snow removal. Interestingly days after the event, was still was trying clean driveways and sidewalks in the community. Pictured is a home 5 days after the storm with no snow removed from the sidewalk or driveway but the mailbox knocked down!
