Sex, Lies and Lovelace
Intell Employees leaving!

Editor's note: Ooops. We made a mistake. Carrie Caldwell doesn't work at the paper for a long time! That means that there is only two of the Intell five left at the newspaper!

This story has it all! A teacher having a sexual relationship with a couple of teens, lies and Brett Lovelace! How could we possible write a story and combine these seemingly non-related subjects? By writing about the Intelligencer employees that HAVE or are soon to leave the paper! Let's just say that you will NOT read this stuff in the newspaper!

Intell reporter Nathan Lee Gadsden came and went very quietly. According to his online resume, he worked full time with the Intelligencer Journal and the Harrisburg Patriot. As recently as March 2007, Gadsden had an Intell front page by-line! By April, Gadsden was gone. The lawyer for Lancaster Newspapers, George Werner, gave this response on April 10, 2007 to 5thEstate.com's inquiry about Gadsden's departure, "Consistent with Lancaster Newspapers' practice, we will not be commenting on what is, for Lancaster Newspapers, a personnel matter. "

Before the Intell, Gadsden worked for the School District of Lancaster (SdoL). When he left his job as Assistant Principal of Lincoln Middle School, Intell reporter Paula Holzman wrote this in her July 25, 2003 story, which in part said this about why Gadsden was leaving Lancaster and going to York:

"'Gadsden, who has worked for the district for nine years, said he is leaving his position because he wanted a change. "It's not that I was unhappy in the district," he said. "I just want to seek a different educational experience." Gadsden said he believes he is better-suited to working at a high school. "

And different it was - or let's hope so! Gadsden, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, in December of 2005, was "defrocked" of his education credentials because, "Educator misappropriated funds from a student activity fund and engaged in a sexual relationship with two female students."!

A little over year after being "defrocked", the Intell hired Nathan Gadsden to cover - among other things - the Lancaster County Judicial race!

Does that inspire confidence in the newspaper?

Lovelace One Down, Four to go!
And speaking of that reporter who wrote about Nathan Gadsden's time in SdoL, Paul Holzman now works for SdoL! In a small 53-word-blurb in the bottom of an Intell story, readers are told that the School District of Lancaster hired one of the "Intell Five", Paula Holzman to be a grant writer for the school district. The 28 year old will fill out forms asking for money from non-profits, state and federal government. Did the story mention that Holzman was one of the uncharged co-conspirators? Of course not. The July 21 Intell did say that she was a "former copy editor and education reporter" (and her salary of $56,155!)

Three Almost Down, two to go!
And what about the twice-voting, uncharged, co-conspirator who put the squeeze on the coroner for the new password? 5thEstate.com has confirmed that Brett Lovelace is leaving the Intell! We have enclosed the ad for his job that is running currently in the newspapers. Lovelace hung up the phone and refused to answer - where was he going?

We will publish the story when the newspaper's defamation case is over!
