Jonthan Luna
PRESS ADVISORY Second anniversary of slain federal prosecutor Jonathan Luna’s death to be marked by vigil at murder scene Friends and supporters of slain federal prosecutor Jonathan Luna will mark the second anniversary of his death, on December 4, 2005, with candles, prayers, and calls for a broader investigation into the handling of his case. Observers will meet at 2 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2005, at the scene of Luna’s mysterious death, at the Sensenig and Weaver Well Drilling Co., at 1439 Dry Tavern Road, in Denver, PA, outside of Lititz, in Lancaster County. Concerned citizens will call for a broad and complete investigation into the circumstances surrounding Luna’s death, as well as an open examination of the current, fruitless handling of his case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luna mysteriously vanished from his desk at the federal courthouse in Baltimore, Maryland, shortly before midnight on December 3, 2003. The next morning his body was found face down in small creek. He had been stabbed 36 times. In the hours before his death, Luna was engaged in preparing a plea deal for a case involving a FBI informant who had run amok in Baltimore. The plea deal served to prevent a court-ordered investigation of the FBI and Justice Department’s mishandling of the informant. Since Luna’s death, the often-times unlawful mishandling of informants by the FBI has become a growing national concern. In the hours before his death, Luna had repeatedly questioned the legality of the plea deal, since it served to unlawfully forgive a drug murder. Luna never completed the questionable plea agreement before he vanished. Luna left behind, on his desk, the unfinished plea deal in his laptop, as well as his cell phone, and his eyeglasses, which his friends say he needed in order to see to drive.
